About the Department

Established in 2011 and admitting its first students to the Elementary Education bachelor’s program in 2012, the Department of Elementary Education has 9 faculty members, including 2 professors, 2 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, and 3 Research Assistants—for a total of 9 faculty members. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Başaran serves as the Department Chair. Over 200 students are enrolled in the Elementary Education bachelor’s program administered by the Department. Upon graduation, students can work as elementary school teachers at public or private educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. To this end, the program aims to equip prospective teachers with in-depth knowledge, attitudes, and skills in areas such as early reading and writing instruction, teaching core subjects, classroom management, and inclusion, among others, throughout their studies.

In addition to the undergraduate program, the Department of Classroom Education also offers thesis-based and non-thesis-based master’s programs in Classroom Teaching. These programs aim to provide students—specifically graduates of the Elementary Education undergraduate program, though not limited to them—with graduate-level academic knowledge in the field of elementary education. Currently, more than 30 master’s students are enrolled in these programs and are contributing to the field of classroom education through their various research activities.
